Description
The symposium will be presented in a live format designed to reinforce key learning objectives and engage attendees in an interactive discussion. Pre-conference patient case vignettes will be made available to allow the introduction of new information and concepts in advance of the conference. Participants who complete the vignettes will have a greater opportunity to formulate their questions and ideas for discussion with the experts. The program will take place at The Four Seasons Hotel, Midtown Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

Statement of Need
Significant improvements have occurred in the management of lung cancer over the past decade. One of the most widely studied approaches to the field of cancer, particularly lung cancer, is treatment strategies incorporating new agents and novel combinations. This is based on an extensive search of the literature in the public domain. Despite these advances, long-term survival benefit has remained elusive. With novel pharmacological agents and treatment strategies, the decision-making process for oncology healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of lung cancer is challenging, thereby requiring in-depth knowledge of current clinical and experimental data for the appropriate integration of new therapeutics into clinical practice. Because of this, healthcare professionals caring for patients with lung cancer need to understand the basis for treatment approaches likely to change clinical practice in the next few years, as well as the preclinical and clinical data supporting the development and integration of these therapies into practice. As such, this program has been developed to provide a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the treatment of lung cancer. The didactic presentation will be combined with discussions on controversial topics in lung cancer management, thus allowing for an interactive exchange of critical clinical information.

Who Should Attend?
The target audience for this educational initiative includes medical oncologists and related professionals caring for patients with lung cancer; pathologists, pulmonologists, oncology pharmacists, oncology nurses, and case managers are also invited to attend.

  • Describe the rationale for the development and integration of new therapeutic approaches in lung cancer
  • Discuss the clinical implications of the results from pivotal clinical trials that have impacted the use of new approaches and strategies for the treatment of NSCLC
  • Review ongoing clinical trial designs of novel surgical, radiotherapeutic, and chemotherapeutic treatment strategies for the management of NSCLC
